Named for a fishing area protected by the United Nations, Area 31 is located on the 16th floor of the EPIC Hotel in downtown. The terrace offers expansive panoramas of Miami’s stunning skyline and waterways. At the helm, Chef Reidt is known for serving his signature Latin-fusion cuisine, like chorizo-potato croquettas with tomato jam and diced plantains. Locals, businessmen and visitors can’t get enough of his flavor-packed dishes; critics are smitten, as well. Over the years, he’s added impressive notches to his belt—specifically being named a “Best New Chef” by
Food & Wine magazine, “Rising Star” by StarChefs.com and “Best New Chef” by
The Baltimore Sun. Most recently, Eater.com honored Chef Reidt by naming him “Chef of the Year Miami.”

After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, Chef E. Michael Reidt worked at Boston’s Zinc and Bomboa, and began developing his reputation for experimenting with traditional South American ingredients and Latin-fusion cuisine. In 2001, the same year he was named one of the country’s “Best New Chefs” by Food & Wine magazine, Reidt brought his expertise to Miami Beach as executive chef of Wish, where he earned recognition as a “Rising Star” by StarChefs.com.
In 2005, he opened his first restaurant, Sevilla, in California. In the same year, Sevilla was honored as one of the “Best New Restaurants of 2005” by Esquire. After traveling to Asia and South America, he returned to the east coast as Executive Chef of B&O American Brasserie in Baltimore, MD, for which he was named “Best New Chef” of 2009 by the Baltimore Sun.
